My obsession with General Ludd began after the release of Autonomous Africa 3 and their 3rd E.P (released earlier this year) has fuelled my addiction. Under the label Ten Thousand Yen, Rich McMaster and Tom Marshallsay’s 4 track e.p uses an array of percussive samples to create a polyphonic, rhythmic masterpiece. The African inspired drum-machine solo track ‘Prisoners Dilemma’ is a hypnotic journey filled with flurrys of reverb and intricate rhythmic patterns. Chopped and edited percussion samples are rife throughout 'Wigu Hill’ with a constant build up of intricate clicks and blips to create an extremely detailed piece. The balance between empty space and fine detailed rhythmic patterns are what make the e.p what it is. Rare Earth Metal has got me extremely excited for the future of General Ludd as their drum programming seems to be evolving with every release.
