Hauke Freer XK EP

Bought this EP earlier this year and never reviewed it or paid that much attention to it. Recently i’ve been trying to fit more disco into my sets and this vinyl is being used almost every time. ‘XK’s a funky slap-bass prominent tune with slick guitar fills and samples bringing the song together. ‘Highdisco’ is a groovy, shuffling track. A rigid walking drumbeat pushes the track forward while soft celestial guitar chords and a bass heavy melody create a Fleetwood Mac style. After a brief drumfill the 80′s style synth is introduced. ‘Good Almond’ is by far the best track on the EP in my opinion. Nifty, shifty piano chords make up the melody with almost constant drum rolls and fills creating the beat. The track is essentially a beefed up, fast paced disco tune. Gorgeous fills and bridges lead into every funk-filled section. The warm vocals step in halfway into the track and you cant resist singing along. The whole EP is highly worth a listen, if not, at least give ‘Good Almond’ a go.
