The Mystic Jungle Tribe - Qvisisana

Qvisisana (most likely named after Italy’s famous hotel Quisisana in Capri) by Naples-based band The Mystic Jungle Tribe is a beautiful work of art. The entire EP is incredibly imaginative and creative with amazing polyphonic melodies blending together in mind-blowing fashion. The opening 9 minute epic ‘Terrazza Sul Mare’ works as an excellent entrance to the album with groovy, adagio bassline and often leading into straying acidic synth lines. The track feels incredibly relaxed and almost improvised defying usual rules of structure and incorporating various production techniques to introduce their nu-jazz sound. The gradual fade out of the opening track welcomes us brilliantly into the funk vibes of ‘Sguardi’. Mesmerising, manipulated synth pads fluctuate over the catchy disco-esque bass. The B side opens up with ‘Visioni’ which is introduced with tribal-inspired, slow release tuned percussion later to be joined by a synth funk bass line and what can only be described as electronic malfunction sound effects. The musical combination of these create a wildly impelling track. ‘Vespro’ is a laid back jazz masterpiece. Bending synths and oscillating keys blend together to master the art of psychedelia. The EP is closed with ‘Il Custode Delle Chiavi’, a faster, house-ier track to the rest of the album. The bass line once again captures the funk gloriously and theremin sounds are thrown over the top. Imagine if The Clangers tv show got a guest appearance from Nile Rodgers and you’ve got it. Really great track to finish a really great EP. The Mystic Jungle Tribe have perfected exhibiting fantastic creativity. If only more music was made like this.
